Africans have been waiting for who wears the crown of the best footballer on the planet today Thursday January 8th in Lagos, the whole continent will get to know if Yaya Toure will be dethroned as the King.
Captains and Coaches of African national teams’ will determine the winner of the January 8 Gala in Lagos.
Super Eagles goalkeeper and captain, Vincent Enyeama had a spectacular 2014 for both club and country; leading Nigeria to the second round of the 2014 World Cup, setting clean sheet records with Lille and recently voted the best goalkeeper in the French league.
He made the final three man cut for the 2014 BBC African Footballer of the year which he came second behind eventual winner, Yacine Brahimi.
2013 winner and pole contender for the award, Yaya Toure is tipped as the best favorite to again retain the award he has won three times already.
Cote D’Ivoire’s poor run at the World Cup may be a hindrance to him winning this time.
Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is surely a surprise on the list, owning that his club Borussia Dortmund have not been doing very well since 2013 when they played UEFA Champions League final.
Gabon did not play at the World Cup either. Except for the country’s run to AFCON 2015, Aubameyang is seen as the least favorite.
Enyeama would be the first Nigerian for over ten years to win the award after Nwankwo Kanu; him winning would cap a befitting national retirement to an illustrious career.
As all is set for today who do you think will win the 2014 CAF Footballer of the Year?
