15-year-old basic three pupil, Sarah Ibikunle, pictured left who was shot dead during the armed robbery incident that happened in Lekki Phase 1 on March 12th, has been buried. She was buried at Ikoyi Cemetry on Monday March 22nd.

Family members, her teachers and her classmates who gathered to bury her spoke of how she dreamt of becoming a Lawyer. Her class teacher, Mr Adebayo Moses told Punch “She was quite brilliant; not troublesome, accommodating and friendly. Her death is very painful.”

The matron of the school, Mrs. Dorcas Ogundare, also spoke glowingly about her “The last day she was in school, she came a bit late and I joked with her that she would wash toilets. She just smiled and I told her to rush to the class. She was a child to all of us and had a bright future,” she said.

At 39, Angelina Jolie can never have kids again. But thankfully she has six children already. The actress revealed in an article she wrote for New York Times published today that she's had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as a preventative measure against cancer.

She said she had the surgery last week as she carries a gene that gave her a 50% risk of developing ovarian cancer. This surgery is coming two years after she had a double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer. Read what she wrote in her New York Times article after the cut...

Angelina Jolie Pitt: Diary of a Surgery (as first published on New York Times)

Two years ago I wrote about my choice to have a preventive double mastectomy. A simple blood test had revealed that I carried a mutation in the BRCA1 gene. It gave me an estimated 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer. I lost my mother, grandmother and aunt to cancer.

I wanted other women at risk to know about the options. I promised to follow up with any information that could be useful, including about my next preventive surgery, the removal of my ovaries and fallopian tubes.
I had been planning this for some time. It is a less complex surgery than the mastectomy, but its effects are more severe. It puts a woman into forced menopause. So I was readying myself physically and emotionally, discussing options with doctors, researching alternative medicine, and mapping my hormones for estrogen or progesterone replacement. But I felt I still had months to make the date.
Then two weeks ago I got a call from my doctor with blood-test results. “Your CA-125 is normal,” he said. I breathed a sigh of relief. That test measures the amount of the protein CA-125 in the blood, and is used to monitor ovarian cancer. I have it every year because of my family history.
But that wasn’t all. He went on. “There are a number of inflammatory markers that are elevated, and taken together they could be a sign of early cancer.” I took a pause. “CA-125 has a 50 to 75 percent chance of missing ovarian cancer at early stages,” he said. He wanted me to see the surgeon immediately to check my ovaries.
I went through what I imagine thousands of other women have felt. I told myself to stay calm, to be strong, and that I had no reason to think I wouldn’t live to see my children grow up and to meet my grandchildren.
I called my husband in France, who was on a plane within hours. The beautiful thing about such moments in life is that there is so much clarity. You know what you live for and what matters. It is polarizing, and it is peaceful.
That same day I went to see the surgeon, who had treated my mother. I last saw her the day my mother passed away, and she teared up when she saw me: “You look just like her.” I broke down. But we smiled at each other and agreed we were there to deal with any problem, so “let’s get on with it.”
Nothing in the examination or ultrasound was concerning. I was relieved that if it was cancer, it was most likely in the early stages. If it was somewhere else in my body, I would know in five days. I passed those five days in a haze, attending my children’s soccer game, and working to stay calm and focused.
The day of the results came. The PET/CT scan looked clear, and the tumor test was negative. I was full of happiness, although the radioactive tracer meant I couldn’t hug my children. There was still a chance of early stage cancer, but that was minor compared with a full-blown tumor. To my relief, I still had the option of removing my ovaries and fallopian tubes and I chose to do it.

I did not do this solely because I carry the BRCA1 gene mutation, and I want other women to hear this. A positive BRCA test does not mean a leap to surgery. I have spoken to many doctors, surgeons and naturopaths. There are other options. Some women take birth control pills or rely on alternative medicines combined with frequent checks. There is more than one way to deal with any health issue. The most important thing is to learn about the options and choose what is right for you personally.
In my case, the Eastern and Western doctors I met agreed that surgery to remove my tubes and ovaries was the best option, because on top of the BRCA gene, three women in my family have died from cancer. My doctors indicated I should have preventive surgery about a decade before the earliest onset of cancer in my female relatives. My mother’s ovarian cancer was diagnosed when she was 49. I’m 39.
Last week, I had the procedure: a laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. There was a small benign tumor on one ovary, but no signs of cancer in any of the tissues.
I have a little clear patch that contains bio-identical estrogen. A progesterone IUD was inserted in my uterus. It will help me maintain a hormonal balance, but more important it will help prevent uterine cancer. I chose to keep my uterus because cancer in that location is not part of my family history.
It is not possible to remove all risk, and the fact is I remain prone to cancer. I will look for natural ways to strengthen my immune system. I feel feminine, and grounded in the choices I am making for myself and my family. I know my children will never have to say, “Mom died of ovarian cancer.”
Regardless of the hormone replacements I’m taking, I am now in menopause. I will not be able to have any more children, and I expect some physical changes. But I feel at ease with whatever will come, not because I am strong but because this is a part of life. It is nothing to be feared.
I feel deeply for women for whom this moment comes very early in life, before they have had their children. Their situation is far harder than mine. I inquired and found out that there are options for women to remove their fallopian tubes but keep their ovaries, and so retain the ability to bear children and not go into menopause. I hope they can be aware of that.
It is not easy to make these decisions. But it is possible to take control and tackle head-on any health issue. You can seek advice, learn about the options and make choices that are right for you. Knowledge is power.

30 year old Rebecca Darnell attended her older sister's wedding and looked really happy to be there. In fact, friends said she was the 'life and soul of the wedding party' as head bridesmaid. She'd helped organize people and dragged many people onto the dance floor, so imagine their shock when they heard she'd hanged herself just hours after the wedding, still wearing her bridesmaid's dress.
"She was the life and soul. She got everybody up and dancing, which is no mean feat. She was getting everyone involved." her father David told a coroner yesterday.
However, just hours after the wedding reception Rebecca's partner of four years, Carlo Salamone, found her body hanging at their townhouse in Addlestone, Surrey.

The couple had argued about the taxi fare on their way back from the wedding, the inquest heard, and Mr Salamone had slept on the sofa when they had got home.

When he woke up and went upstairs to find his girlfriend, he saw that their bed was still made and had not been slept in. Walking up the second flight of stairs to the third floor, Mr Salamone found his path blocked by a hanging figure.

Mr Salamone raced to get a phone and dialled 999 and was directed through CPR lifesaving techniques, which he carried out.

Police constable Stephen Ashley, who attended the scene after 7am, said he found a body lying on the floor, still wearing a "formal evening dress."

A post-mortem examination showed Rebecca had died as a result of suspension, with a cause of death of hanging. Toxicology tests showed she was double the drink driving limit, with 162mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

Mr Salamone said his partner had been "very happy" on the day of the wedding, on November 8, 2013, and had drunk vodka and coke but not seemed excessively drunk.

Taxi driver Khalik Meah said the couple had been arguing when he gave them a lift back from the party some time after midnight.

Asked whether the couple rowed a lot, Mr Salamone said they would argue when they were drunk, but this was only around once a month and this had been no worse than normal.

"She was my life partner," the garage owner said. "That evening at the wedding I had spoken to Jo's husband and arranged the following summer in Dubai (where the newlyweds lived) to ask Rebecca to marry me. "I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her."

The counsellor had been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was aged 25 years, the coroner heard, leaving her reliant on insulin to regulate her blood sugar levels.
Her medication had made her put on weight, which Mr Salamone said she worried about, weighing herself every morning and evening.
Once, during a severe hypoglycaemic attack, she fell into a coma which lasted four days and left her with minor memory problems.

Her devastated father David said his daughter, who grew up in Hertford before the family moved to Guildford, Surrey, had been a perfectionist.

Rebecca's cousin Samantha Nash, 24, said she had seen her in a state at about 10pm on the night of the wedding.
Miss Nash said: "She came to me and completely broke down. Alarm bells went off.
"She was extremely upset. It was about how Carlo wasn't there for her at home.
"She kept saying, 'Don't tell anyone Carlo's on drugs, cocaine, don't tell anyone."

Coroner Richard Travers said: "The cause of Boo's death was hanging. There was nothing at the scene to suggest any third party involvement."

He ruled out a verdict of suicide, as he could not find any clear intention, such as leaving a suicide note and Rebecca had made plans to see friends and family for the coming days.
"Consequently I conclude Rebecca died from self-inflicted injuries but her intention was unclear," he said.

Austin is said to have led Chiemezie into the office of the accountant. Chiemezie pointed the gun at the accountant and asked him to surrender the money but the accountant summoned courage and shouted for help. This attracted other staff and out of fear, Chiemzie dropped the gun that had only one cartridge. He attempted to run, but he was apprehended by the workers and handed over to the police.
During interrogation, Chiemezie a native of Azawa Obiato, Iseke in Mba Itolu, Imo State said;
"I live in Shapati area of Ajah, Lagos. I worked as a waiter at Royal Bliss Hotel and earn N18, 000 per month. I was arrested for armed robbery. My friend, Chukwuemeka Austin, who wanted to resign from where he was working and go back to his village in Enugu State, invited me to rob the company of the workers’ monthly salary. I borrowed the gun from a hunter in Contonou. My friend told me that the money was between N2 and N3 million. I agreed because he said we will share the money 50-50. The knives were recovered from his house. We had only one cartridge inside the gun. This is my first time of going for robbery” he said

First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has rubbished claims by Rivers state Governor Rotimi Amaechi that she receives N199 million($1m) monthly from the Rivers state PDP Governorship candidate, Nyesom Wike so as to will him some political favor.

Speaking through her media aide, Ayo Adewuyi, Mrs Jonathan said the allegations were not only laughable but also ridiculous. 24 year old student Khaliah Shaw was left almost blind, screaming in agony and lost 90% of her skin as a result of a rare allergic reaction to a common prescription drug she was prescribed for bipolar.

When she first started experiencing discomfort, Khaliah, from Georgia, US, was told she had the flu but one night she woke up to agonising pain as her skin fell off. Her hair and fingernails had also fallen out and her body covered in open wounds.

She was prescribed the medication, Lamotrigine in 2013 while a student at Georgia College and State University and within a month of being prescribed the anti-seizure drug, Shaw had developed a purple rash, and had blisters inside her eyes and mouth, and on her hands and feet. Doctors initially had no idea what was wrong with her, and isolated her thinking she had an infectious disease.

She had to be sedated for five weeks. She had to relearn how to walk, sit, stand and feed herself, and was kept in hospital for seven weeks.

Khaliah is now raising awareness of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, the condition which nearly killed her

"It was a shock to see that... all my hair had come off. I didn't have any fingernails. When I realized all my hair was gone, I cried," Shaw wrote on her blog. "When my friends came to see me, I cried. When I realized I couldn't walk, I cried. When I left the hospital, I cried. EVERY time I look hard enough in the mirror, I cry. Crying has become my thing because…I don’t know what else to do! I literally feel like I woke up in another persons body.

"It breaks my heart when people stare at me. It tears me up when I sense that people are weirded out by my appearance. If I choose to stop living, then SJS wins. And we ALL KNOW that is NOT happening! Not today. Not tomorrow. So it’s time to put on the armor of God and fight. HARD."

"It still haunts me to think about everything they did to me while I was in hospital. I can still hear the IV machines beeping. I never want to end up in the burn unit EVER again. There are still things I avoid to this day because it reminds me of that time. And no amount of discomfort is worth getting SJS again. NONE.”

Shaw hopes to return to university to continue her graduate studies in public health, but told Fox Los Angeles: "The biggest thing is I would love to have my vision back."

Vin Diesel and his longtime girlfriend Paloma Jimenez welcomed their third child on March 16th and the Fast & Furious actor revealed in an interview on the Today show today Monday March 23rd that she'd named his daughter after his late friend & co-star, Paul Walker. Speaking on the show, Vin said;
"I named her Pauline. There's no other person that I'm thinking about as I'm cutting this umbilical cord. I knew he was there and I felt like, you know, a way to keep his memory a part of my memory, a part of my world."

Three children allegedly abandoned by their dad at a railway station were rescued after a passer-by tweeted a photo of them huddled in a corner with a message asking if someone could help.

Local journalist Abhishek Shukla, 33, had been seeing his parents off at the main station in the Indian capital New Delhi when he spotted the children cuddling each other for warmth as they slept on a platform. Concerned about their well-being but not having time to speak to them, he took a photo and posted it on Twitter with the message: "Can someone help these helpless kids at New Delhi Railway Station near platform 16 entrance."

The tweet quickly went viral and was soon picked up by local police chief Madhur Verma who mobilised his men to go and get them.

He said: "When officers arrived they found the children had gone. Worried they may have been kidnapped they began searching the station and stopping passengers. Eventually, after an hour, they were found them hiding on another platform. They were cold, hungry and scared but we soon found out what had happened."

According to the children, Rahnuma, 7, Raja, 5, and Sanya, 4, their divorced dad who lives in another state had taken them out for the day but then left them at the station saying their mum would come and get them.

Verma said: "When we arrived at the mother’s house she was asleep and said she had been working and had not been contacted by her ex husband. As far as she was aware the children were staying with him. "We are now looking to question the man."

The mother said she had not been contacted by her ex-husband

Later he tweeted: "Today morning (sic) safely handed over to mother Ms Tabassum. They are happy!" And he was immediately swamped with good will messages from ecstatic locals.

Suddenly my husband left home without any explanation at the end of the last year. He left me and our son without any livelihood or means of supporting ourselves."
